Summer Programs 2008

 

Freshmen Year Experience

Freshmen Year Experience is designed to help students make new high school friends, and familiarize students with their high school campus and staff.  To prepare for the rigor of high school, the program also includes an academic enrichment piece with 2 hours of English, 2 hours of math, 1 hour of career exploration and one hour of study skills. Students earn ½ unit of elective credit upon successful completion of the course.

Math Through Mariachi Summer Program 

Math Through Mariachi Camp is designed to strenghthen math skills as students learn to play mariachi music. Beginners and experienced mariachis are welcome! Instruction will include playing techniques for violin, trumpet and rhythm instruments. Math lessons will prepare students to be successful in Algebra. Instruments ca be provided by GEAR UP if necessary. The program will run from June 16 to July 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will be held at The University of Arizona. Pre- and post camp supervision is available 8-9 am and 4-5pm. Morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Students will need to bring their own lunch.

Young Authors Camp


Young Authors Camp will be modeled after a college-level creative writing workshop. Students will experiment with craft in poetry, non-fiction, narrative, and fiction writing with an emphasis on the use of technologies. The program will run June 2 – 18 from 9 a.m. – noon.

Algebra Academy

Algebra Academy allows students to gain an understanding of algebraic concepts through hands-on engaging activites. Students earn one unit of elective credit upon successful completion of the course. The program will run from May 29 to June 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please call The University of Arizona Early Academic Outreach at 626-2300 for more information.
